Lambdaboard, a flexible faced polyisocyanurate (PIR) insulation board made on a continuous laminator, is an insulation solution used in many world-class local development projects. Lyle Jeffery, national sales manager at Rigifoam, says the over-purlin application is currently the most widely used application method for the product.
“The over-purlin application has been a go-to specification for a long time. Lambdaboard has the highest stable R-value per 25mm of thickness, is moisture resistant, water repellent, 100% eco-friendly, offers excellent dimensional stability and an excellent ceiling fini sh . It is for this reason that the product was recently specified for the Sam Ntuli Mall in Katlehong” says Lyle.
The Moolman Group shopping centre was designed by MDS Architects. Anchor tenants of the 25 000m2 development include Shoprite Checkers and Pick n Pay, both of which received Lambdaboard insulation .
“One of the highest costs of running a building is the HVAC costs. In grocery stores, this can account for much as 60% of the energy bill! Lambdaboard helps reduce this significantly by offering the highest levels of insulation available. Through this it increases the shelf life of their fresh produce. Both Checkers and Pick n Pay, along with the ceilings of the walkways of the mall, have been fitted with Lambdaboard,” says Lyle.
Rigifoam has successfully installed the product in a number of large grocery stores over the past six months, including the Ferndale Mall (formerly known as Brightwater Commons) and the Pick n Pay on William Nicol.
Lyle says many new office developments have installed Lambdaboard to reduce their HVAC costs. “The new Discovery head office in Sandton, Katherine Towers next door, the Deloitte head office in Water fall City and the new Exarro head office in Centurion have all specified Lambda board to future-proof them selves against rising electricity bills and ensure the comfort of their building occupants;’ concludes Lyle.WR
